In January 2019, filmmaker Karim Aïnouz sets out by boat across the Mediterranean on his first journey to Algeria, his father’s homeland. Accompanied by his camera and the memory of his mother, Iracema, he documents his journey from the sea crossing to the Atlas Mountains in Kabylia, in northern Algeria, and back to Europe, interweaving the present, memories of the past, and reflections on the future.
